Kathy
Kathy recently took an early retirement from working with Somerset County Council to set up a gardening business. She is now able to combine her life long love of gardening with her role as a District and Town Councillor.
Over the past few months her business has really taken off and she has been busy working in everything from individuals’ gardens to joining a small team at a 4 acre country house garden. She also volunteers one afternoon a week at the local Walled Gardens at Cannington and has enrolled on to the RHS Level 2 Practical Horticulture course in the autumn to ensure that she is continually learning and developing her skills.
The Photoshoot
Kathy invited me to join her at her own personal allotment. She said that she finds taking a piece of land and turning it into something beautiful really satisfying. Kathy says that it teaches her to be patient; you can create the right conditions but then you have to leave it grow and do its own thing.
Kathy says that she likes the feel of the earth in her hands and I particularly enjoyed capturing her hands as she worked. We enjoyed some strawberries and raspberries from the allotment after the shoot.
